Chennai, February 9: While Virat Kohli’s men aim for a record chase, England will look for rare Test win in India during day five of the first Test in Chennai on Tuesday (February 9).
Chasing a huge target of 420, India were reduced to 39 for 1 at stumps on day four, losing Rohit Sharma, who was cleaned up by a peach bowled by left arm spinner Jack Leach.
India had chased 387 against England at the same ground in 2008 when Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh rose to the occasion. They also chase a huge score recently against Australia in Brisbane.
Now will Kohli’s men use their win in Brisbane and the chase in 2008 as an inspiration to chase down the score or will Joe Root and co take the remaining nine wickets to claim a rare win in India? But do the English spinners have enough experience to handle the pressure?
FOUR! Kohli inches closer to a half century as he drives Leach straight down the ground for a boundary. India – 152/6.
FOUR! Anderson finds the edge but the ball goes through the vacant area as Ashwin finds a boundary.
Jack Leach starts off the second session with a maiden. India – 144/6.
Welcome back to the post lunch session as Kohli and Ashwin look to fight back against England’s bowling attack.
Can Kohli and Ashwin help India by batting for another session? Let’s find out after the break. Join us for post lunch session at 12.10 PM IST.
