The Caribean Premier League 2020 is well and truly underway! Matches are going to come thick and fast in CPL T20 2020 with double-headers on almost all days. There are just two venues which are going to handle all the matches and this is why we think teams that handle spin better are at an advantage.

This match is going to be played between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Both the teams would have already played a match a day earlier and so the fitness of the players is going to come in question for sure.

The Patriots have a new look about them as some of their senior players have shifted teams. They are also going to be without Fabian Allen after he missed his flight to the bio-secure bubble.

Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots CPL T20 2020 is going to be played at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on the 19th of August 2020.

Having a young team as the Warriors do is going to be an advantage in this edition of the CPL. Players have to be able to recover quickly and continue to perform under a grueling schedule. The Guyana Amazon Warriors may not be playing at home but their team is pretty well-suited for the conditions they are going to get in Tarouba.

We expect at least three regular spinners to be playing every single match for them. Imran Tahir, Chris Green, and Chandrapaul Hemraj, all three of whom had a very productive CPL 2019. This gives them a lot of flexibility especially as Keemo Paul can play as a seam-bowling all-rounder.

With Romario Shepherd and possible Naveen-ul-Haq in the side, the Guyana Amazon Warriors have six good bowling options.

The batting is going to be led by Brandon King, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Sherfane Rutherford, and Ross Taylor in there as well. This is a very strong batting lineup. We just hope they manage to use all the power-hitting resources at their disposal.

The big advantage for the Warriors is that they play and bowl spin very well.

The Patriots are looking a bit lopsided in terms of team balance to us. The loss of Fabian Allen is a big one and is going to hurt them. For the Patriots to win matches, their batting needs to fire consistently. They have three very good T20 batsmen in Chris Lynn, Evin Lewis, and Ben Dunk. Dinesh Ramdin has also shown himself to be a very useful batsman in this format of the game.

We are a bit concerned about Chris Lynn on the slower pitches. He is at his best when the ball is coming on nicely to the bat. Evin Lewis can be a bit slow to start and can go through some terrible phases of form. A lot will depend on how he starts and whether he is able to stay fit for the entire CPL.

The Patriots have a good pace bowling unit with the likes of Alzarri Joseph, Sheldon Cottrell, and Sohail Tanvir. They do not have too many quality spin options and so it looks like Ish Sodhi is going to be the lead spinner for the Patriots this season.

The potential to win is there, no doubt, but we just can’t shake the feeling that the Patriots are not perfectly tuned for the challenge that is going to come their way.

50% of the matches played at this venue have been won by the team batting second, however, three out of the last four matches have been won by the chasing team. We think the teams will look to chase under lights.

There is a lot of rain forecast in Tarouba during this season, however, most of the rain tends to fall early in the day. The Guyana Amazon Warriors are going to be playing nine out of their ten matches at night and so they should have much better luck with the weather.

We don’t think we are going to have any trouble getting a full match in this case.

The pitch is a bit on the slower and helps spinners. Scores of around 155-160 should be seen as competitive scores batting first.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors certainly stand out as a better team to us. There is more room for attacking young batsmen who are very good against spin. They also have much more depth in their attack and enjoy the kind of conditions that we will experience.

We think the Warriors are the team to bet.
