  • Jamaica Tallawahs have more power than any other side in the Caribbean Premier League 2020

The Trinbago Knight Riders started their CPL 2020 season with an easy win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Up next are the Jamaica Tallawahs, a dangerous side loaded with match-winners. This is the only match that TKR is playing under lights and so hopefully the rain will not be an issue.

Jamaica Tallawahs would have also played one match by the time this one gets underway. We are expecting a much better performance from the Tallawahs this season even though their build-up has included plenty of off-field distractions. The Caribbean Premier League has not seen the best of the Jamaica Tallawahs for quite some time now and the franchise somehow needs to band together.

TKR will the favorites going into this match and have plenty of experience on their side but we all know how dangerous JT can be. The question is to be answered is whether the Tallawahs are fully committed to their team or not.

TKR vs JT CPL T20 2020 is going to be played at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on the 20th of August 2020.

The Trinbago Knight Riders won their first match thanks to an excellent performance from Sunil Narine. He bowled very well and then batted quite brilliantly to pull-off a tricky chase. The playing eleven that TKR started with is very well-balanced. It has a deep batting order and plenty of good bowling options.

Perhaps the batting position of Tim Siefert was the only real problem since he is wasted down the order.

Lendl Simmons looked rusty in the opening match and is going to be under pressure to justify his place. Sunil Narine is going to be peppered with some short deliveries upfront from some genuinely quick bowlers. We would not bank too much on him in this match.

Colin Munro, Darren Bravo, and Kieron Pollard are likely to provide the real thrust for TKR in the batting department in this match.

The bowling for TKR was not the most impressive in the previous match. Sunil Narine did well but Ali Khan, Fawad Ahmed, and Dwayne Bravo are just the kind of bowlers that could come in for a hiding against the JT power-hitters.

We are not convinced about this team’s bowling unit just yet and it could require some changes before TKR finds its best balance.

There is no team that has more power in its batting than the Jamaica Tallawahs. We mean that in terms of six-hitting, strike-rate, and even depth. The big-hitters just keep on coming with Carlos Brathwaite slated to bat at number seven.

The risk here is whether the Jamaica Tallawahs have too much of a good thing. None of their batsmen are really the kind to rotate the strike and hunker down if the situation demands. Maybe Glenn Phillips and Jermaine Blackwood could provide that sort of balance but it will be a stretch.

The addition of two quality-spinners to the bowling lineup gives the Jamaica Tallawahs a lot of teeth. Mujeeb ur Rehman and Sandeep Lamichhane are all but certain to start and will test any opponent. If Oshane Thomas, Andre Russell, and Fidel Edwards can utilize the short ball well against TKR, the Jamaica Tallawahs have a real chance.

Speaking of Andre Russell, the big man is coming into CPL 2020 well-rested and fully fit. He has already said that this is his last season with the Tallawahs and so we just hope he is motivated to showcase his best form.

Jamaica Tallawahs have enough power hitters to keep going for the entire 20 overs. They will need to adapt to the slow conditions, though.

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. CLose to 90% of the times that has been the decision by the toss winning captain. The match results are almost 50-50 for teams batting first and second, though.

The batting conditions should be better during the second half of the day as the lights take over. The threat of rain is never too far away from the islands and we are expecting some interruptions on match day but hopefully nothing too serious.

The pitch is pretty good for batting but undeniably slow. Short bowling was very difficult to hit as the ball did not come nicely on to the bat. The boundaries are pretty long on one side of the wicket as well.

We think a score of around 160 is a very good score batting first but teams may want around 180 to be comfortable.

It is difficult to ignore the kind of talent that the Tallawahs have in their lineup. The sheer amount of power in the lineup, the quality of spin-bowling, and the best T20 player on the planet to lead the way. The Trinbago Knight Riders are well stocked and an efficient T20 machine but we believe they can be beaten.

The risk of betting on the Jamaica Tallawahs is well worth it.
